Aldes — fresh air VR experience
A VR film that shows what a ventilation system does on a smoggy day.
In May 2017, Aldes, the French manufacturer of high-end ventilation systems, released a new VR experience film. The goal was to help urban audiences understand how much clean air matters, through an immersive VR experience. The challenge came to Mexxum.
In May 2017 in Beijing, Aldes released the film. The goal was to reach a wider urban audience and show why clean air matters. Mexxum took on the challenge.
To make the most of Aldes's WeChat account, Mexxum built the VR experience on a Google Cardboard-compatible architecture. This lowers the cost of the headset considerably and works on both iOS and Android.
WeChat followers simply open the Aldes France official account, tap the menu and start the experience.

In the VR view, tap the headset icon to enter viewing mode, then place the phone in the headset before the countdown ends.
The Aldes VR experience follows an office worker in a big city, and how she deals with worsening urban air.
A heavy smog warning appears on the TV. She drives home, the view outside the window a flat grey.
Back home, she pushes the door open, complaining.
After a day outside, the smog has followed her in through the gaps around the windows and doors. What now?
The air is so bad that even the flowers she brought home have wilted.
She turns on the wall-mounted ventilation unit. Stale indoor air, including formaldehyde, is extracted, while fresh outdoor air is filtered to remove PM2.5 and supplied back inside. The air in the flat clears.
With cleaner air, she looks better too.
If you do not have a VR headset, the same 360-degree film can be viewed in standard mode.
The VR system was released on 17 May at Aldes China's 20th anniversary celebration, where guests could try it on headsets in the display area.
